The 1.8T 20v is one of the great tuner engines - Golf GTI Mk4, S3 8L, Leon Cupra R, TT 180/225 - and twenty years on, most are running tired original coils. Big-turbo builds, chipped daily drivers and stock cars alike all show the same first symptom: misfires under boost and lumpy cold idle.
